Matiks, a Bengaluru social gaming startup built around maths, memory, logic and puzzle games, has raised $10 million in a Pre-Series A round led by General Catalyst. The company says it will use the money to expand abroad and to scale an AI tool that lets people build games without code.

The round

Matiks raised $10 million in a Pre-Series A round led by General Catalyst, TechCrunch reported on 26 October 2026. Ronnie Screwvala took part, along with existing investors Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners and Untitled Ventures. Total funding to date is over $13.5 million, according to the same report. The company has not disclosed a valuation.

TechCrunch reports the funds will go toward scaling Jelo, an experimental AI game-creation platform, by expanding into new markets. Other coverage says the money is meant for international expansion, new games and social experiences, and the no-code creation platform. An earlier $3.1 million Pre-Series A round was led by Tanglin Venture Partners, per Entrackr.

What Matiks does

The app has four categories of games: Math, Puzzle, Memory and Logic. Players can practise against bots or compete with real players, and can complete challenges and quests to earn points, keep streaks and unlock games, TechCrunch says. Founders Sudhanshu Bhatia, Mohan Kumar and Sushant Timmapur met as college friends; Bhatia has a competitive mental-maths background and started the idea while working on anti-money-laundering strategy at American Express, per the report. The app has existed for about two years.

The company reports that daily users rose from 22,000 earlier in the year to over 300,000 by September, and that monthly active users reached 2.2 million in September. Most players are in India, with traction in the US, South Korea and Japan, and localisation for South Korea and Japan is planned. The team has 41 full-time employees.

On revenue, a subscription test began in October that unlocks game analysis, tips and practice. In-game purchases let players skip challenges, maintain streaks and boost XP.

The investors

General Catalyst partner Rahul Humayun told TechCrunch that duels, social features, "Snac" and creation are the engagement areas he sees as strong, and he described the team's product pace and community engagement as signs of promise. He also said early monetisation results look promising. Info Edge Ventures and Tanglin are existing backers; Screwvala is a new individual investor in this round.

Why it matters

TechCrunch places Matiks in a lineage of head-to-head brain games such as QuizUp and of battle-royale titles that have had surges, and notes that mobile game growth has slowed amid AI-generated content. Matiks is betting on skill-based, social play and on user-created games as a way to deepen engagement; Jelo competes with tools such as Google's Playground. The user numbers above are company-reported. Related coverage: Gaming funding news.
