Different, an AI marketing startup founded by Nutanix and ThoughtSpot co-founder Ajeet Singh, has emerged from stealth with a $48 million (about ₹453 crore) Seed round led by General Catalyst. The company builds software that runs business-to-business demand generation end to end, and the size of the cheque marks it as one of the larger seed rounds in the AI category this year.
The round
Different raised $48 million (nearly ₹453 crore, per Inc42) in a Seed round led by General Catalyst. Lightspeed Venture Partners, Together Fund, Haystack Ventures, MXV Capital and Firebolt Ventures also participated, according to StartupFeed's account of the launch announcement dated 20 October 2026.
The company says the money will go to its engineering and go-to-market teams. No valuation has been disclosed. Different Labs, Inc. is headquartered in San Francisco, and its careers page lists openings in San Francisco and Bangalore, StartupFeed reports. The company has not disclosed headcount in either city.
What Different does
The platform plans, creates, executes and scales personalised content across channels such as ads, email and landing pages, drawing on a company's business context, strategy and audience data. It also learns from campaign results to adjust performance.
The pitch is aimed at problems enterprises face when running marketing: hiring specialised talent, coordinating several outside agencies and managing a patchwork of software tools. Marketers set the goals and approve work before it goes live.
Before its public launch, Different tested the product with early customers including software companies Descope and Motif, Inc42 reports. According to the launch statement as relayed by StartupFeed, Descope used Different to find and redirect 60% of its paid spend that was being lost to poor targeting, and runs its marketing with two people. Motif went from running one campaign at a time to more than a dozen across four channels within a month, with a three-person marketing team. These are company-reported results. No Indian customer has been named.
The founding team is Singh (CEO), Abhishek Pani (chief product officer) and Abhinav Yajurvedi (chief technology officer). Yajurvedi was previously chief technology and product officer at PharmEasy, and earlier built marketing infrastructure at Flipkart and Myntra, StartupFeed reports. Singh co-founded Nutanix in 2009 and ThoughtSpot in 2012, per Inc42; Nutanix listed on Nasdaq in 2016, and ThoughtSpot has raised over $670 million and was last valued at nearly $4.5 billion, the outlet says.
The investors
General Catalyst led the round. TechCrunch reported in February 2026 that the firm had committed $5 billion to India over five years, which makes Different a US-headquartered company with an Indian engineering presence that sits within that wider push.
Together Fund, one of the participants, is an Indian SaaS-focused fund with an $85 million corpus started by Freshworks founder Girish Mathrubootham and Eka Software founder Manav Garg, according to StartupFeed. Lightspeed Venture Partners, Haystack Ventures, MXV Capital and Firebolt Ventures also took part.
Why it matters
Inc42 notes the launch as a new entrant in AI-led marketing technology, where the shift is from tools that generate content to systems that carry out entire campaigns. Different's own claim is that a small marketing team can do the work of a much larger one without coordinating agencies and multiple tools; the early-customer figures above are the only performance data the company has put forward so far. With no disclosed customer count or valuation, the next signals to watch will be commercial rollout and hiring in Bengaluru.
